Let Your Children Get Fat, Sue a Corporation

If your young children are overweight, whose fault is it? I expect that even in a society like ours where people are averse to taking responsibility for anything, most people will answer, “Me!” But in California (where else?) there is a woman named Monet Parham who is claiming that McDonald’s is responsible for her children’s  poor diet.

It seems that McDonald’s employees came to Parham’s house, tied her up, and force-fed her kids French fries, milkshakes, and Big Macs.

Just kidding! Actually, McDonald’s engaged in “predatory advertising” by offering toys with Happy Meals. The gall of those corporate villains! As you can imagine, this poor woman had no choice but to drive to McDonald’s multiple times, buy the pernicious Happy Meals, and watch helplessly as her children ate every last calorie. Otherwise, her kids might have pouted. The horror!

Fortunately, a public-spirited organization called the Center for Science in the Public Interest stands ready with a team of lawyers to file a class action suit on behalf of this woman and all the other victims of Grimace and the Hamburglar.

If Monet Parham, who is a professional advocate for eating vegetables, can’t withstand the McDonald’s juggernaut, how can any of us? I mean, her involvement in a lawsuit of this kind isn’t the least bit suspicious or anything. We must act now before our kids all end up looking like Eric Cartman. To arms!

How wonderful it is to reside in a world where one can argue in a court of law that one is far too weak-minded and idiotic to have any responsibility of caring for oneself. May the courts have some justice and put her in an asylum. Preferably one with no light. If she cannot see an advertisement, she can’t be swayed by it. Obviously, the outside world poses too many dangers for her.

What’s strange to me is that the people obsessed with shutting down McDonald’s are very concerned with whether or not their children are going to grow up to be obese, but don’t seem to have much concern with whether or not their children will grow up completely self-absorbed and accustomed to having everything their way. They will be impossible to live with, but at least they’ll be fit! Joke is on them, though, because if the kids grow up with that, “I can have whatever I want,” they will figure out that fatty foods taste good when they get older and will have no interest in denying themselves whatever they want well beyond the time when McDonald’s toys are the source of temptation.
