The 2012 presidential race has begun in earnest, with straw polls in Iowa recently making headlines. Aside from the usual nonsense that this means we’re all in store for, there’s some really egregious distortion taking place in the reporting of the results out so far.
As is often the case, Jon Stewart of Comedy Central sees the situation more clearly than the “real” news people. Watch this video clip to see what I mean. Several alternative media outlets have picked up on the story.
In the eyes of the world, what’s worse than being wrong in your predictions of dire consequences resulting from unsustainable fiscal and foreign policies? Why, being right in those predictions, of course! Ron Paul predicted the 2008 financial crisis and debasement of the dollar during the presidential campaign and was laughed at. Four years later, having been right about everything, he’s still being laughed at.
When the blind and one-eyed make fun of the one guy in the room who can see clearly, we can be certain that things will get worse before they get better.
The sad thing is that, in our society, a comedy show gives more reliable news than the supposed “news networks.” I’m afraid we are closer to the world of Idiocracy than to the world of Animal Farm.
Well said, Jason.
